With the Apparel Textile Sourcing Canada (ATSC) show making its debut in Toronto, from 22-24 August, small businesses, retailers, manufacturers and designers across Canada will get a boost this summer. ATSC will also bring to Canada hundreds of apparel and textile manufacturers from China, India, Bangladesh, Mexico, the US, Honduras, Peru and other countries.

A comprehensive trade show and conference will provide attendees with new insights and up-to-date information needed to effectively navigate through the sourcing process.

Stronger prices for the fiber spurs Tanzanian farmers, the world’s fourth-biggest producer of the organic variety to increase cultivation which may double cotton production to a four year high next season, said a government agency.

Emmanuel Mwangulumba, chief regulatory officer at the Tanzania Cotton Board said that ginning companies are raising the amount they pay farmers to an average of 1,000 shillings ($0.46) per kilogram (2.2 pounds), 25 percent more than they previously received.

Pakistan’s cotton production is likely to surge by 14 percent to 8.0 million bales (480-pound bales) as extra moisture following heavy monsoon this year swells yields, during the current crop season of 2016/17, said the USDA.

According to the USDA, area harvested is estimated at 2.5 million hectares (mha), down 0.3 mha or 11 percent from last year while yield is estimated at 694 kilograms per hectare, up 28 percent from last year.

Uttarakhand has being given approval for setting up two textile parks, in these parks weavers which will provide hi tech infrastructure facilities, modern technology, training and raw material, said Union Minister of State for Textiles, Ajay Tamta.

But the state government has to decide where it wants to set these two textile parks which will provide benefit for weavers.

This will also help in reducing migration in the hilly areas in search of jobs and not only the weavers but educated and skilled youth will also get work opportunities.

Kutaisi, a legislative capital of Georgia, and its third largest city by 2017 will become city of the developed textile industry as two new plants will be built in the near future and 10,000 people will work at the textile enterprises, said the Secretary General of International Investors Association of Georgia, Osman Chalishkan.

According to Osman Chalishkan, today, the main problem is the lack of qualified personnel, and they are negotiating with the Ministry of Economics regarding the opening of special centres to train future employees of the textile companies.

With the announcement of the new additional list of goods that will enter the US duty free under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) scheme, entrepreneurs have been urged to take full advantage to enhance Rwanda’s export volumes and revenue.

Francois Kanimba, the Minister for Trade and Industry, said that this development should act as an incentive for producers, particularly small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) to increase production to benefit fully from the AGOA arrangement.

US Acrylonitrile price surge to one-year high on supply outage

US acrylonitrile spot surged to one-year high on supply outage, the highest level since 7 July. Spot spiked US$125 a ton FOB USG in the third week of July, which ended on 22nd July 2016.

European acrylonitrile prices rose despite Ineos restarting Seal Sands ACN plant and imports in January-May rising 12% year-on-year. European acrylonitrile was up US$20 a ton on the week.
