MEG price gains on bullish crude

Asian MEG marker gained US$13 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the third week of Asia. In China, spot offers were up US$10 a ton during the week. MEGlobal nominated Asian contract price for September, flat from last month.

Mono ethylene glycol prices jumped in Asia on bullish crude, futures and persistent short covering by major traders. Several traders were buying cargoes to cover both H1 and H2 September physical positions. In China, MEG market was pulled up midweek by tight spot supplies and continuous rise in crude oil prices.

Paraxylene prices dearer across all regions

Asian paraxylene prices gained US$14 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the third week of August. Paraxylene prices rose throughout the week in Asian market only resting on Thursday as crude rebounded sharply opening the week and rallied on Thursday. The paraxylene-naphtha spread also narrowed down rapidly during the week.

Pakistan may need to import 2.5mn cotton bales due to output shortage

With Pakistan’s cotton sowing remaining 25 percent lower this year compared to the last year, its cotton production likely to face a shortage of around 2.5 million cotton bales during current year, said Girdhari Lal of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association.

Girdhari Lal further said that with country’s cotton demand hovers around 14 million bales while the production estimated at a little above 11 million bales. According to their estimates, around 2.5 million bales would need to be imported.

The three-day 16th International Textile Asia Exhibition, organised jointly by PRGMEA and Ecommerce Gateway, besides marking the participation of over 500 foreign delegates, orders worth $160million were booked on the first day while deals of more than $350 million were signed throughout the mega textile fair.

PRGMEA senior vice chairman Sohail Sheikh said that around 50,000 people visited the exhibition during first two days, while more than 100,000 visitors registered their presence in the textile fair in three days.

Pakistan likely to achieve approximately 13 million bales of cotton production in the coming season that will help recover its cotton losses from last year. This was informed at the fourth meeting of Federal Textile Board (FTB) chaired by Federal Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan held on Monday.

The stakeholders were informed by Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) and Cotton Commissioner that through close coordination between federal government and government of Punjab the Pink bollworm, which had damaged the cotton crop last year, had largely been controlled.

In China, FDY70D/24F SD prices were up US cents 4 a kg in the third week of August while FDY40D jumped US cents 9 a kg on the week.

DTY 70D/24F prices were rose cents 4-7 a kg on the week while 30D/10F were up US cents 9 a kg during the week. Monofilament 30D prices rolled over while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices rose US cents 9 a kg on the week.
