Prime Minister Narendra Modi's most preferred initiatives during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit began its 8th edition from 10 Jan 2017, at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. The theme of Vibrant Gujarat 2017 is “Connecting India to the World.”

At the ongoing Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2017, diversified Welspun Group signed three MoUs with the state government where it would invest Rs 4,000 crore on three large textile projects in Gujarat. Welspun Group has already invested Rs 10,000 crore in Gujarat so far and fresh investments take the total to Rs 14,000 crore.

Welspun Group Chairman B K Goenka said that their continuous investment in the state is a testament to their long term commitment to Gujarat. It is their aim to make Gujarat the textile hub of the world.

Polyester staple fiber prices rise in Asian markets

In China, 1.4D PSF was up US cents 12 a kg in December. In India, 1.2D PSF prices were up US cents 6 a kg from previous month. In Pakistan, prices in Karachi were up US cents 4 a kg on the month.

Polyester staple fibre prices extended an uptrend in China as MEG prices moved up sharply. Polyester staple fibre prices moved up also because OPEC and non-OPEC members had agreed to cut oil production, supporting polyester raw materials prices to hike significantly.

Polyester filament yarn prices move up in December

In China, POY 75/72 prices in December were up US cents 13 a kg on the month in Shengze while Indian POY 130/34 prices were up US cents 3 a kg on the month. In Pakistan, 300/96 DTY prices were up US cent 1 per pound on the month.

Polyester filament yarn makers in China hiked offers in December, seeing buyers maintain healthy demand when prices were rising.

In India, POY offers climbed during the month, although trading atmosphere was lusterless, as downstream buying enthusiasm was quiet.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced a package of incentives worth 180 billion rupees ($1.72 billion) after a meeting with top exporters on Tuesday aimed at reviving the struggling textile industry. Textiles make up more than half of Pakistan's exports, but it has lost ground to South Asian neighbours in recent years, hurt by chronic energy shortages and underinvestment in machinery.

Dull trading was witnessed at cotton market on Tuesday by Karachi Cotton Exchange, the spot rates continued to remain unchanged. According to traders, the activity remained slow in the market, waiting the government to announce textile package on Tuesday.

The spot rates stood firm at Rs6,350/ maund (37.324kg) and Rs6,805/40kg while the Ex-Karachi rates also remained unchanged at Rs6,485/maund and Rs6,950/40kg after an addition of Rs135 and Rs145 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

KCE recorded domestic transactions of around 3,000 bales in between Rs6,150/maund to Rs6,625/maund.
