The Government of India’s Helpline for Handloom Weavers ‘ Bunkar Mitra’ launched by the Union Textiles Minister Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani on December 25, 2016 on the occasion of “Good Governance Day” went live yesterday.

The Minister congratulated the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) and appreciated the time-bound manner in which the helpline is designed to addressed to respond to weavers’ queries and grievances.

Interacting with an official of the call centre housing the helpline agents, the Minister said that the helpline is a great mix of technology, youth and tradition.

Everest Textile Co, vertically integrated textile manufacturers have been seeking overseas sites for its new factories, as the fabric manufacturing process is quite labor intensive has scheduled to start operations at its two new plants in Ethiopia and the US in the first half of this year.

The plant in Ethiopia is to manufacture garments for the company’s brand name customers from Europe, while the US facility is to supply knitted fabrics and garments to customers in the US, the firm said.

Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) has signed an agreement with Golden Fiber Australia Private Limited (GFAPL) of Australia under this deal BJMC will export different jute goods including sacks to Australia worth Tk565 crore in next two years.

The deal was signed at the textile and jute ministry’s conference room yesterday. BJMC Secretary Mohammad Saleh Uddin and Sakib Ahmed Khandoker of the GFAPL signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

Asian ACN prices declined US$70 a ton CFR Far East Asia in the second week of December while Southeast Asia fell US$75 a ton on the week. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were down US$70-80 a ton on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices caved in although feedstock propylene and crude oil values were up that week. Downstream demand was stable as acrylic fibre prices held stable, and suppliers ran at 75% capacity. ABS sentiment held firm on cost support, with domestic producers generally offering at stable rate. Acrylamide prices remained steady.

Asian propylene markers jumped US$48-54 a ton CFR China and FOB Korea in the second week of December. Propylene prices continued to surge day on day throughout the week as downstream PP makers strengthened further while port congestion in China hated to ease. Asian markers gained 6% on the week having gained more than US$70 in just two weeks.

In US, December propylene discussions were ongoing expecting drop, with sellers and buyers still wide apart on the amount that monthly pricing should fall. Chemical grade propylene spot inched up US cents 1.50 per pound FD USG on the week.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced successful commissioning of the first phase of Paraxylene (PX) plant at Jamnagar, Gujarat on the birth anniversary of Reliance’s Founder Chairman Padma Vibhushan Shri Dhirubhai H. Ambani.

The plant with capacity of 2.2 MMTPA is built with state of the art crystallization technolgy from BP which is highly energy efficient and environment friendly. With the commissioning of this plant, RIL’s PX capacity will more than double from 2.0 MMTPA to 4.2 MMTPA.

In China, offers for 1.4D direct-melt-spun PSF in Jiangsu and Zhejiang jumped US cents 10 a kg in the second week of December. The same in Fujian market were also up US cents 10 a kg on the week.

Polyester staple fibre prices moved up early only to stabilize over the week as OPEC and non-OPEC members agreed on oil production cut, supporting polyester raw materials prices to hike significantly. Later US FED raised interest rates, which calmed down market sentiment.

In China, semi dull chip offers were up US$80 a ton in the second week of December while super bright chip offers jumped US$70-85 a ton on the week. Offers for CDP chip surged US$85-120 a ton during the week.

Asian marker for semi-dull continuous spinning fibre grade chip rose US$50 a ton FOB Taiwan/Korea on the week.
