Fiji expects to see more new players in garment industry

The Textile, Clothing and Footwear Council of Fiji having received some interest, hopes to see some new players in the garment industry this year, said TCF president Kaushik Kumar. Presently, there are more than 40 garment factories in the country.

On the council's expectations for this year, Mr Kumar said that they also expect exports to remain stable and have plans to explore new markets in the MSG group.

In the past few weeks garment factories advertised for a number of positions ranging from machinist to other garment factory workers.

Solapur’s closely-knit and largely unorganised garments and uniforms industry is attracting attention of the armed forces, according to Nilesh S. Shah, Vice-President of Shri Solapur Readymade Garment Manufacturing Association (SRGMA).

Nylon chips price jumps on surging caprolactum

Bright conventional spinning nylon-6 offers in Asia surged US$240 a ton in the second week of December. Offers for semi-dull high-speed spinning chip were up US$270 a ton on the week.

Taiwan‐origin high-speed chip offers were hiked by another US$200 a ton. High-end engineering plastics grade chip prices moved up US$260 a ton on the week.

Benzene prices spike in Asia, US

Asian spot benzene spiked US$108-120 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan in the second week of December. The CFR India was up US$120 a ton on the week. Benzene prices gave back a significant part of its previous week’s gains as buyers were resistant to such sharp hikes. Sellers in Asia were unlikely to compromise on prices until given the price uptrend in crude oil and feedstock was established.

Prices moved up on the cotton market on Saturday in the process of trading activity in line with the international track, dealers said. In Sindh, seed cotton prices were at Rs 2600-3250, while in Punjab, phutti rates were at Rs 2800 and Rs 3500, as per 40 kg. However, the official spot rate remained unchanged at Rs 6250.
