India has been an active participant of the Cairo Fashion and Tex - International Fashion and Textile Exhibition held every year. At the 60th edition of the International Fashion and Textile Exhibition "Cairo Fashion and Tex" beginning from today 2 March. Fifteen Indian textile companies are participating.

India’s Ambassador to Egypt Sanjay Bhattacharyya said that India is one of the largest producers of cotton in the world and that Indian cotton and textile are very popular internationally. They believe that their cooperation in the textile sector is very important.

ASF price gains in China

In China, medium-length fiber and cotton-type staple ASF prices surged US cents 16 a kg in the third week of February. Acrylic staple fibre markets on China saw another round of price hikes while overall industrial run rate was stable at a high level, as a result of healthy sales and generally low inventories.

Seeing favorable movement recently and firm raw material cost, prices may even move higher later. However, in a longer‐ term, market participants are generally worried about the off season in future.

Acrylonitrile price jumps amid tight supply

Asian acrylonitrile prices jumped US$50-70 a ton CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia in the third week of February. Indian ACN prices surged US$50 a ton on the week.

Acrylonitrile markets sentiment in Asia remained firm that week on the back of turnaround-led supply tightness. In China, availability remained limited, and sellers were in no hurry to sell. China's Shanghai Secco Petrochemical will shut its 260,000 ton a year ACN plant in Caojing from February 20 to March 25 for maintenance.

Kapangan situated on the northern part of Benguet province in the Cordillera Administrative Region of the Philippines. Cotton prices remained steady at cotton market on Tuesday leaving the market largely devoid of activity as leading buyers remained on the sidelines. The Karachi Cotton Association also kept its spot rates unchanged.

However, KCA fixed the official spot rate, or base price, for Grade 3 cotton at 7,127 rupees per maund (40 kg). Grade 3 cotton has a staple length of 1-1/16" and micronaire value between 3.8 and 4.9 NCL (no control limits), which represents fine to coarse classes of cotton varieties.

Australian cotton growers and exporters during a seminar organized by Australian Cotton Shippers’ Association in Ludhiana urged Indian traders and industry owners to buy the Austrialian cotton. Stuart Gordon, research scientist from Advanced Fibres and Industrial Chemistry Group, Australia, said that the Australian cotton had high fibre strength, and was dyeable and spinnable, making it better than cotton from other parts of the world.
