Total, a French energy giant in the petrochemical sector will invest up to two billion dollars in Iran's petrochemical industries, said Deputy Minister of Petroleum Marzieh Shahdaie.

The agreement has been reached for establishment of two facilities for production of a special grade of polyethylene, each facility running with 500,000 tons annual production capacity.

Shahdaie added that furthermore, agreement has been reached for construction of a cracker ethane facility to turn ethane into ethylene – 1,200,000 tons a year production capacity.

With improved demand for better grades and tight cottonseed arrival to ginneries due to dull picking and slower arrival of fine grades kept trading in Punjab and Sindh stations selective on grade issue, while volumes of second grade of lint remained on higher side, besides prices of all grades remained at the hands of sellers on back of shrinking stocks, traders said.

The ginning units remained confident on paucity of better cottonseed arrival that pushed general prices on firm footing, said floor brokers.

The Telangana state government has urged the Centre to open 150 business centres of Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to enable farmers sell their produce as the extent of cotton sown area increasing two fold this year. During 2015-2016 the CCI had opened only 84 centres, this year the farmers would be requiring at least 150 centres to sell their produce.

It has also sought relaxation in CCI purchasing norms as cotton gets discoloured to some extent due to heavy rains in October and November.

Assam government plans to promote eri with product diversifications at the international expositions as Assam’s eri products exhibiting huge market potential among international buyers at the mega textile event Textile India 2017.

Being a partner State of the exhibition, Assam had 15 stalls in the textile event, where selected number of entrepreneurs exhibited their products. Assam sold products worth Rs 15.82 lakh and generated orders worth Rs 4.32 crore during the event held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

ASF market witnesses lackluster trading in Asia

Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow offers were flat in the third week of June. Acrylic staple fibre prices were stable amid lackluster trading atmosphere across Asian markets. In China, downstream mills mostly reduced their procurement due to the downtrend in ASF market, waiting for the release of monthly settlement prices and the following actions of producers. However, due to low run rates, overall inventory pressure was moderate.

In India, domestic demand was lackluster while no exports were reported in May, which in turn pushed ASF market sentiment into insipidity.

Acrylonitrile price slumps in Asia, US

Asian acrylonitrile prices declined US$21 a ton CFR Far East Asia in the third week of June while CFR South East was down US$20 a ton on the week. In China, offers for offshore cargoes rolled over during the week.

Acrylonitrile markets in Asia gave back all its previous week’s gains as downstream demand continued to remain lusterless amid increased supply. In China, ACN spots market was stable‐to‐weak and transaction was quiet.

Trading at cotton market remained grade selective while buyers consolidated their future positions with fresh fine lots making forward deals for better grades of lint on sellers' asking price pushing physical prices in green zone amid firm spot rate of Rs6,100 per maund at Karachi Cotton Association (KCA), traders said.

Floor brokers said that buyers bought all grades at around Rs 6,275 per maund to Rs 6,500 per maund and deals for fine and second grade lint for blending purpose remained sound that changed hands at around Rs 6,750 per maund on average during trading session.

Owing to favourable climatic conditions and high pricing of cotton , the planting of cotton crop has doubled in terms of area compared to the same period last year. As per the data released by the agriculture ministry, an unprecedented increase in cotton sowing has seen the area under kharif cultivation going up by nearly 20%.

With most parts of the country receiving good rains as the first month of monsoon activity comes to a close, there is an indication that sowing will pick up momentum in the coming weeks.
