Slow to moderate trading was witnessed on Monday at the cotton market with prices remaining firm. Though there was sustained demand from spinners for cotton but slow flow of phutti (seed cotton) from fields into ginneries restricted activity.

The new spell of rain expected from next week concerns cotton trade as it may affect the crop in its current growing stage, brokers said.

However, so far the cotton crop is remained safe and sowing also went smoothly on slightly larger area thus strongly indicating that crop size would be larger than last year.

Blended yarn prices steady in Asia

In China, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices were flat in Zhejiang in the last week of June, while 45s PC combed yarn prices were stable on the week. PV 32s were up US cents 2 a kg due to weak US$.

Blended yarn prices mostly rolled over across markets in China, India and Pakistan with fibre prices at firm levels and cotton making some upward move. In China, PV and PC yarn prices were stable in Yuan terms but rose in US$ terms, making export a bit uncompetitive.

MoU signed between BUFT and NIFT India

Agriculture Ministry of Egypt Hamed Abdel-Dayem on Saturday said that production of their silky soft cotton once known as ‘white cotton’ should rise to 1.4 million qintar (160 kg) in the 2017-18 fiscal year that started in July from 700,000 qintar a year earlier. The government aims to increase the price of the long staple cotton to more than 3000 Egyptian pounds ($168.07) per qintar, which will all be exported.
