The exhibit "Scraps: Fashion, Textiles and Creative Reuse” opened on Saturday, September 2nd at the Textile Museum at George Washington University. The exhibit is part of the museum's 38th annual Celebration of Textiles Festival which this year is focused on recycling in fashion.

The exhibit explores how innovative designers are taking leftovers scraps of fabric to high fashion, the runway.

Museum director John Wetenhall said that the elegance, the color, the shape, the form are so beautiful that people wouldn't know they come from recycled materials.

Profit margins of textile companies after remaining under pressure in the first quarter of the current financial year due to traders’ destocking ahead of the GST implementation effective July 1 are expecting a revival in their profit margins in the second quarter (July-September) on a rebound in customer footfalls and restocking by traders following GST compliance.

Not only small players but large ones, too, saw profits being squeezed in the quarter ended June. Primary textile players had stocks returned to them amid fears of the GST’s burden on unsold inventory.

Polyester yarn prices rise in China, India

In China, offers for 32s polyester yarn in Shengze rose US cents 3 a kg in the third week of August. Spun polyester yarn offers were slightly up that week after declining the previous week. However, trading sentiment was tepid as transaction volume was small and demand was lackluster. Players were advised to pay heed to the changes on crude oil values, the price trend of PX and the number of orders from downstream spun yarn producers in the future.

PTA price edges down in Asia

Asian PTA prices were down US$10 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia in the third week of August. Purified terephthalic acid market in Asia edged down on expectations that the production will increase in September. Yisheng Petrochemical decreased its self-lifting price for the week while Hengli Petrochemical kept stable.

BP Zhuhai restarted one PTA unit ahead of schedule, and Yizheng Chemical Fiber postponed the maintenance. Hengli Petrochemical restarted Dalian PTA line with a capacity of 2.2 million tons per year.
