Caprolactum prices stable to up in Asia

In the second week of August, the SE and FE Asian caprolactum markers were flat on the lower end. In China, spot liquid good offers were up US$16 a ton on the week while solid goods rose similarly.

Sinopec raised August nomination at a hike of US$60 a ton from last nomination. European goods were stable on the week. Caprolactum prices firmed up in Asian markets supported by slightly high benzene cost amid modest demand.

Cotton output likely to increase 4 pc to 34.5 m bales

In the cotton year ending September on the back of sharp rise in yield per hectare, the cotton output is expected to increase 4 percent to 34.5 million bales (of 170 kg each). According to the second advanced estimate released after the Cotton Advisory Board met here on Friday the yield per hectare is expected to increase to 541 kg from 459 kg, however, acreage under cotton dropped 11 percent to 10.84 million hectares (12.29 million hectares).

The Central Silk Board to assure cocoon production thereby increasing the production of raw silk thread has decided to sensitize the sericulture farmers to choose food plant cultivation variety that would suit the water availability in their region.

The CSB chairman, K.M.Hanumantharayappa said that the annual production of raw silk hovered around 28,000 metric tonnes, out of which 98 percent belonged to the mulberry variety. The other three varieties were Muga, Eri and Tusar.

Azerkhalcha a state run company established under the presidential decree in May 2016, plans to revive country’s weaving traditions and reintroduce its hand woven carpets to the world.

The company recently opened its first branch in the front zone - Horadiz settlement of the Fizuli region. The Horadiz branch has so far manufactured about 100 carpets of various sizes which will be exhibited at various international trade shows, said Azerkhalcha president Professor Vidadi Muradov.
