The State owned Tamilnadu Weavers Cooperative Society (Co-Optex) has joined the bandwagon this season. The Vellore unit of Co-Optex has put up a six-day exhibition of summer dress materials under the theme of â€˜Cool Comfortsâ€™ at the Town Hall, which has caught the attention of locals.
According to the regional manager N Karthikeyan Nair, this is the first time Co-Optex has launched the â€˜summer sales driveâ€™ through an exhibition in Vellore. He said that hundreds of varieties of specially made summer fabric to ward off heat were being exhibited.
The expo was inaugurated by Co-Optex vice-president, Jayanthi Somasundaram and M Murali (director, Co-Optex) on Monday. The six-day expo hopes to sell around Rs.8 lakh worth of fabrics. All the products at the expo are offered a discount of 20 percent,
They have introduced pure cotton sarees with brand names Jayakarthika, Sangeeth, Kolam etc made of special cotton yarn by weaver societies attached to Co-Optex to attract young women to the expo.
In addition a lot of silk and cotton mix sarees, ahimsa sarees made of yarn without killing silk worms, churidhar and kurti items, special cotton readymade garments for men and women are also on display.
The regional unit of Co-Optex considering expo as a win-win solution both for weavers and consumers is also planning to have similar expos at Tiruvannamalai and Chittoor in May and June.
