River Island & Ecologi announces tree planting initiative

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2022-09-05 06:38:00 – United Kingdom

London-based fashion retailer, River Island and climate action platform Ecologi have announced a tree-planting campaign.

For each new email address registered and app downloaded throughout the month of September, River Island will plant a tree. In order to benefit local communities and biodiversity, each tree supported via this initiative will be planted by one of Ecologi's dependable partners in various project locations throughout Africa and South America.

Ecologi works with companies to support climate solutions while funding global climate action, such as reforestation and carbon reduction. Since its founding, the social business has provided funding for programs that have reduced carbon emissions by over 2.2 million tonnes and planted over 47 million trees.

The B-Corp social enterprise runs a subscription service to reverse down global warming and funds initiatives like reforestation and carbon abatement. Its goal is to cut the global greenhouse gas emissions by half by the year 2040, as predicted.

River Island and Ecologi have collaborated twice before. They have already planted about 160,000 trees collectively. The project is the newest one to come out of River Island's Kind Society, which strives to make fashion a force for good by supporting the 4 pillars of People, Planet, Principles, and Partnerships.

Linda Adams, Head of Partnerships at Ecologi, said that the possibility of thousands of new trees being planted through this collaboration with River Island is enormously exciting. This would boost local livelihoods while also enhancing biodiversity in these places. However, one component of the climate problem answer is just planting trees. They also need to immediately lower emissions significantly if they are to make the kind of breakthrough that is urgently required.

The firm has also implemented further carbon reduction measures across its network, such as employing 100% green energy in stores, the headquarters, and delivery centers. This project is just one component of River Island's sustainability approach. River Island wants to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
