Due to the pandemic, the supply chain of the Moroccan textile industry has been badly impacted and has experienced disruption. Over-reliance on the traditional textile markets and the dependency on imported raw material seem to be a big challenge for the market.
Morocco is getting vulnerable as compared to the others because of the health crisis as observed by the Moroccan Association of the Textile and Clothing Industry (AMITH). AMITH is basing its roadmap, in new normal, on four main factors that are an adaptation to the needs of the customers, innovation & creativity, sustainability, and the technical development of manufacturing capabilities.
Fatima Zahra Alaoui, Director General of AMITH says that the sector not must strengthen its level of adaptation to customer requirements. For the future, one needs to be sustainable. Many Moroccan companies are having a hard time keeping up with the market following supply disruptions and declining foreign demand. While the numbers for the 2020 financial year have not been finalized yet, the association pointed to an 11% drop since last November and a continued decline throughout December.
