HKRITA, Epson collaborate on innovative dry fiber recycling solution

The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel Limited (HKRITA) and global technology company Seiko Epson Corporation (Epson) have signed a joint development agreement to pioneer an innovative dry fibre recycling solution. Building on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2023, the partnership aims to extend material life cycles, promoting a circular economy in the textile industry by minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency.

Epson will leverage its dry fibre technology to establish a defibrating process for elastic blended and tightly woven fabrics. HKRITA will provide technical support and evaluate recycling performance, focusing on material properties. The collaboration seeks to offer a swift recycling solution for the textiles and apparel industry, addressing climate change challenges in tandem with Epson.

CEO of HKRITA, Edwin Keh, underscores the significance of cross-industry collaboration, emphasizing the potential for integrated sustainability solutions that transcend individual industries.

Satoru Hosono, Deputy General Administrative Manager of Epson’s Technology Development Division, highlights the global shift towards recycled textiles. The collaboration aims to apply Epson’s dry fibre technology to develop textile recycling solutions, responding to increasing global demand.

By combining their expertise, HKRITA and Epson aspire to make a tangible impact on climate change, envisioning a more sustainable future for both the textiles and apparel industry and society at large.
