Dondup, Bluesign partner for sustainable denim initiative

Italian denim brand Dondup has teamed up with Swiss material verification firm Bluesign as part of its global Denim Initiative, launched in March 2023. The initiative includes a wide network of brands and manufacturers like Madewell, Everlane, Reformation, and ISKO to drive sustainable and responsible practices in denim production.

The initiative aims to implement clean chemistry and sustainable processes in the denim industry, ensuring high standards of safety and environmental responsibility. Participating companies gain access to Bluesign’s solutions system, focused on sustainable chemistry to enhance worker safety and increase resource efficiency.

Bluesign will work closely with Dondup to conduct on-site assessments and verify chemical inventories, ensuring that all production steps meet rigorous safety and sustainability standards. This collaboration aligns with Dondup’s goal to reduce its environmental footprint.

Matteo Anchisi, CEO of Dondup, said the partnership will help the brand minimize environmental impacts while maintaining high safety standards. Dondup aims to produce premium denim that is stylish, environmentally friendly, and socially responsible.

Bluesign’s 2023 impact report showcases the company’s efforts, including a reduction of over 3 billion kilograms of carbon emissions and saving 6.3 billion liters of water between 2019 and 2023. Additionally, it tracks more than 20,000 approved substances as part of its sustainability benchmarks.

Anchisi noted that Dondup’s long-standing sustainability efforts, such as working with Candiani, are strengthened by its new partnership with Bluesign. He hopes this collaboration will inspire others in the fashion industry to follow Dondup’s lead in prioritizing transparency and accountability.
