AATCC, the Association of Textile, Apparel & Materials Professionals provides test method development, quality control materials, and professional networking for thousands of members in 60 countries throughout the world to host its Introduction to Textile Testing Workshop Dec. 3-4 at the AATCC headquarters in Research Triangle Park, N.C.

The workshop is designed for textile industry professionals who are responsible for product evaluation, specifications and quality control for apparel and textile materials.

Attendees will learn how to properly perform and interpret test results for approximately 20 colorfastness and physical properties test methods and evaluation procedures. Colorfastness tests to be addressed include crocking, light, washing, and perspiration.

Participants will also be shown how to use the AATCC Gray Scales for Staining and Color Change, the AATCC Chromatic Transference Scale and the Xenon Reference Fabric. In addition, AATCC staff will discuss STM D 4966, Standard Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Textile Fabrics (Martindale Abrasion Tester Method); and D 3512 Standard Test Method for Pilling Resistance and Other Related Surface Changes of Textile Fabrics: Random Tumble Pill Tester.

AATCC is internationally recognized for its standard methods of testing fibers and fabrics to measure and evaluate such performance characteristics as colorfastness, appearance, soil release, dimensional change, and water resistance. Textile products destined for sale in the North American market are tested with AATCC test methods.

AATCC’s objectives are to increase knowledge, encourage research, and establish channels for the interchange professional communication and knowledge among its members.
