Avalo, Advance Denim to scale AI-developed low-impact cotton for denim

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2026-07-20 14:02:12 – USA

Agricultural biotechnology company Avalo has selected Advance Denim as its first mill partner for the denim market across China, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Under a multi-year agreement, Advance Denim will receive exclusive access to Avalo’s premium dryland cotton as production increases. The cotton will be spun, woven, and finished into denim fabrics for some of the world’s leading fashion brands and retailers.

As part of the partnership, all Avalo cotton will be grown under the US Cotton Trust Protocol (USCTP) regenerative agriculture program and tracked through TextileGenesis. This will allow brands to access reliable traceability data and support verified sustainability claims throughout the supply chain.

Although Avalo is working on several climate-resilient crops, including sugarcane and tomatoes, its cotton program has attracted significant interest from the textile and apparel industry.

In June, an independent cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment confirmed the environmental benefits of Avalo’s flagship cotton program. The findings showed that the cotton used 100% less irrigation water than conventionally grown cotton, reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 47%, and required 75% less fertilizer, offering a practical solution as fertilizer costs continue to rise.
