Louis Vuitton has introduced a new material called Silk Tech across a selection of menswear products. The fabric is made using a twill weave that combines silk with reclaimed nylon, creating a lightweight material that is resistant to water, fraying, and wrinkles.
The blend gives the fabric the appearance of leather while maintaining a smooth, silky texture and a subtle shine. It is also highly durable, with the Silk Tech City Bag capable of carrying up to 50 kilograms (around 110 pounds).
The brand is using Silk Tech in a wide range of products, including ready-to-wear clothing, handbags, luggage, footwear, and accessories. The collection features items such as a water-repellent windbreaker, a puffer jacket, running shorts, and the iconic Speedy bags.
According to Louis Vuitton, the performance qualities of Silk Tech are inspired by the brand’s travel heritage. The company said the fabric draws inspiration from the exceptional strength and lightweight properties of silk used in early 20th-century parachutes and hot air balloons, combining durability with a refined look and feel.
