The Expedition III Shirt by Berkeley, California-based outdoor brand Royal Robbins has received the 2026 Red Dot Award for innovative product design. The shirt features the company’s proprietary Mosquito Protection Technology (MPT), which is designed to provide effective protection against mosquitoes without using chemical treatments.
The shirt is made from an ultralight proprietary fabric that combines MPT with UPF 40+ sun protection. Instead of relying on chemical insect repellents, the fabric uses a specially engineered tight weave to create a physical barrier against mosquitoes. This protection remains effective throughout the life of the garment without washing out or wearing off.
Made from 100% recycled polyester ripstop, the shirt is moisture-wicking, quick-drying, wrinkle-resistant, stain-resistant, and weighs only 4.5 ounces, making it lightweight and easy to pack.
To improve functionality, the shirt includes an adjustable fold-up collar and cuffs that allow users to increase or reduce coverage depending on outdoor conditions. It also features two secure zippered chest pockets for convenient storage during outdoor activities.
