India stepping up efforts to reach a deal centered on China this year

Now, after 12 advanced economies accounting for 40 percent of the global economy signed a TPP deal, India's trade negotiators feel they need to get a move on. India is stepping up efforts to reach agreement with an alternative trade bloc centered on China and hopes to reach a deal this year.

New Delhi has long been seen by many countries as an intransigent player at the World Trade Organization (WTO), a multilateral forum that has struggled to find the consensus it needs to move forward.

The Indonesian Textile Association’s (API) advisory board chairman, Benny Soetrisno while speaking at the recent press conference said that the US-led TPP is likely bring more benefits than harm to the local textile industry, but there’s one thing that need to watch out when joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership [TPP], that’s the yarn-forward clause. Hence, the country has to boost the industry’s readiness at all stages of the manufacturing process.

Blended yarn price inches up in India while stable in China, Pakistan

In India, 30s (65/35) PV warp yarn prices inched up further INR1 a kg (up US cent 1) in Indore market in the second week of February. In Ludhiana, PC 30s (52/48) prices gained INR2 a kg (up US cents 3).

Blended yarn prices have further risen in India during the week, although fibre price rolled over while cotton was still cheaper. The price rise was in line with a reduction in operating rates since the beginning of the year.

Meanwhile export prices were sliding due to the absence of buyers from China, while export to Pakistan is likely to fall.

Viscose yarn price rises in line with a recent rebound in VSF market

In China, mainstream prices of 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu remained unchanged while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan were up US cents 3 a kg in the second week of February.

Viscose spun yarn prices were slightly rising in China however, in line with a recent rebound in VSF market. Demand for imported yarns fell post holidays, following a new decline of yarn prices on the domestic market.

Pakistan's Ambassador-designate to Russian Federation (RF) Qazi M Khalilulllah while exchanging views with the business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), said that Russia was a huge market for Pakistani products and urged the Pakistani businessmen to step up efforts to explore the Russian market for promoting trade and exports.

Russia is among top 10 economies of the world with annual imports of over $175 billion, but Pakistan's share of trade with Russia was 0.06 percent of its total trade, which was quite negligible.

Fall in cotton yarn and fabric markets is depressing cotton trade, as leading spinners stayed away from the proceedings having already imported a substantial quantity of cotton due to which the cotton market turned easy on Friday, said floor brokers.

Despite the fact that stocks are low and there is little hope of any substantial arrival of phutti (seed cotton) during the current season, there are hardly any signs of panic buying.

Brokers said that millions of spindles would go idle in the coming days which would have a snowball effect on the entire textile chain.
