Dull market was seen on the cotton market on Tuesday as leading spinners kept on the sidelines in the process of trading. In the ready business, about 1400 bales of cotton changed hands at Rs 5550, dealers said.

In Sindh, prices of seed cotton at Rs 1600 and Rs 2800, in the Punjab, rates were at Rs 2000 and Rs 3000. The official spot rate remained unchanged at Rs 5,350.

As per the market sources, the spinners were not keen in making fresh deals because they are already facing losses due to high risk of doing business in absence of incentives by the government.

Indonesian textile and garment makers are pushing the government to join a greater economic partnership with European and Pacific Rim countries in order to boost the country’s exports by taking part in the two international trade pacts.

Anne Patricia Sutanto, deputy CEO of garment manufacturer PT Pan Brothers, said that she expected that that the government would stay committed to joining comprehensive partnerships with the EU and US-led Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

MEG price recovers on tight supply in Europe

European MEG prices recovered Euro40 a ton FCA NWE on tighter supply in the first week of February.

MEG spot in Europe rebounded on tighter supply as Ineos stopped offering ending several weeks of decline.

Asian MEG markers were up US$9 a ton CFR China and South East Asia on the week.

In China, nearby-month cargoes were quoted at about US$590 a ton, with counter offers at US$580-585 a ton. Forward-month goods were US$5 a ton higher over nearby-month quotes.
