Trading activity remained dull as buyer in lint market showed eagerness for quality lots keeping physical price in red zone on Wednesday said, traders at the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA).

During the trading session, spinners in Sindh and Punjab stations bought all grades on cautious note as grade issue was continued. Traders offered all grades of lint on bargaining rates at around Rs 4,975 per maund to Rs 5,350 per maund in order to capitalize maximum returns on their proceeds, said floor brokers.

The Punjab textile industry’s problem of disparity, affordability and viability has been resolved to a large extent with the supply of RLNG, which the industry was facing for the last six years, said APTMA former chairman and patron-in-chief Gohar Ejaz.

Co-optex plans to conduct 50 exhibitions of its 'cool comfort' cotton saris across the country by July this year for which the cooperative body has procured over 47,000 saris from its 12 cotton clusters across the state. In India, ASF offers were at US$1.84-1.87 a kg during the week.

In Pakistan, 1.2D ASF prices were down PakRs5 a kg (down US cents 5) on the week.

Prices in India rolled over previous week’s values while those in Pakistan were down due to weak demand amid depreciating currency in the third week of February.

In China, medium-length staple fiber prices remained unchanged at US$1.79-2.02 a kg in the third week of February while cotton-type staple was at US$1.80-2.02 a kg.

Asian acrylonitrile marker, the CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia was down US$15 a ton in the third week of February. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were at US$1,000-1,050 a ton CFR China.

Acrylonitrile prices dipped in Asian markets as buyers expected prices to fall further. Spot activity was mute after Lunar New Year holidays.

Downstream demand was lusterless as run rate at ASF producers was still below 100% while ABS demand was yet to recover. Acrylamide prices held flat, thus demand remained weak.
