100 man-made fibre yarns export from India was valued at US$16.82 million in January 2016, down 11.9 per cent YoY while volumes were at 6.4 million kg, edged down 0.5 per cent as compared to the same month last year. The total volume comprised 3.05 million kg of polyester yarn, 2.25 million kg of viscose yarn and 1.14 million kg of acrylic yarn.

The 28th edition of Textile Forum held at One Marylebone in central London which ran till March 10 got a bright start, it attracted 20% more exhibitors than the last event in March 2015. Forty companies from the UK, Portugal, Japan, the US, France and Belgium showcased 85 collections, a year-on-year increase of 15%.

New exhibitors included Derbyshire-based lace manufacturer Cluny Lace Company, sustainable fabric brand Offset Warehouse, London embroiderers Hand & Lock and London-based clothing supplier Plus Samples.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley while presenting the budget in Parliament on February 29 had proposed a one percent excise duty on readymade garments worth Rs 1,000 and above. Textile companies have urged the government to roll back the proposed excise duty on branded readymade garments and continue with the ‘optional duty regime’ that applies currently, until the goods and services tax (GST) is introduced.

Bangladesh imports 49% cotton from India to meet its demand

India has become the single largest source of cotton import, the basic raw material for the textile industry for Bangladesh due to rapid shipment, better quality, price competitiveness and settlement of dispute in a relaxed manner, said BTMA President Tapan Choudhury.

According to the latest data from Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Bangladesh imports 49% cotton from India to meet its demand. Last year, it imported 6.10 million bale cotton, of which 2.99 million bale or 49% came from India.

ASF prices stable despite weak raw material cost

In China, medium-length staple fiber prices rolled over at US$1.79-2.01 a kg in the last week of February while cotton-type staple was at US$1.80-2.01 a kg.

Jilin Chemical Fiber maintained its February list prices for 1.5D and 3D medium-length at US$2.00-2.01 a kg, while tow was at US$2.10 a kg and top at US$2.25 a kg. Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow prices rolled over at US$1.60-1.70 a kg while offers for regular products were at US$1.56-1.60 a kg.
