Mauritius business representative in SA to promote trade opportunities

The Enterprise Mauritian team is on their visit to South Africa to promote the country’s trade opportunities in textile manufacturing, accessories, agricultural products and jewellery.

The team landed in Durban on Monday and will be in Johannesburg later this week to talk with big chains, such as Mr Price, Ackermans and Reebok about manufacturing in the Indian Ocean country.

Apparel One to invest $39mn to open second factory in Semarang

Apparel One, a subsidiary of Bina Busana Internusa, a Jakarta-based garments company controlled by tycoon T.P. Rachmat's Triputra Group plans to invest Rp 490 billion ($39 million) in a second factory in Semarang, Central Java, this year.

The plant, which covers a 2.4 hectare-area, would increase Apparel One's total production capacity to 21 million pieces of clothing, with an export value of $100 million per year, Apparel One Indonesia president director Lukman Widjaja said.

The factory will also employ 6,000 workers at the end of the year.

International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group in partnership with global apparels and footwear company VF corporation and consumer products retailer Target Corporation has launched a program aiming to improve resource efficiency at their supplier factories in Vietnam.

Many Vietnamese factories are expected to operate with better energy and water efficiency under a program. Under the first phase of this program, energy and water efficiency assessments will be conducted at about 30 factories over the next 12 months.

Nylon yarn market remains range bound in China

In China, semi-dull FDY70D/24F prices rolled over in the first week of March while FDY40D were up US cents 8 a kg.

Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices were stable while 30D/10F prices were down US cents 7 a kg on the week.

Monofilament 30D prices remained unchanged while 1.5D staple fiber was steady during the week.

With recovering caprolactum and firmer nylon chips, nylon filament yarn prices were range bound on cost pressure, but hike of prices met sharp resistance.

Caprolactum price jumps on surging benzene cost

In China, liquid good jumped up US$70 a ton in the first week of March while solid goods offer was up US$10 a ton.

Asian markers, the SE and FE markers gained US$30 a ton on the week.

Sinopec revised its March contract nomination to US$1,530 a ton for liquid goods while DSM Nanjing announced March nomination at US$1,580 a ton for liquid goods.

Fair price of jute bags for govt supply revised to Rs 86,700/tonne

The fair price of B-Twill sacking (jute bags) for government supply has been revised from Rs 86,000 to Rs 86,789 a tonne. This was announced in January by the Jute Commissioner’s office. Revising the price gives clear indication that steps taken by the both state and centre has failed to stem continuous rise in the raw jute price since last few months.

Sources in the jute industry said that JC may have revised the price to encourage IJMA to pull out of the case against the fair price order of January 2016.
