The Taiwan Textile Federation is a global leader in coordinating an industry of multiple markets and end uses after its first promotional campaign at ISPO Munich trade fair that took place this January is now planning to promote the country’s textile industry at the upcoming SaigonTex that will be held from 30 March to 2 April at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Center (SECC), in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The arrival of cotton during the ongoing 2015-16 season is not matching up with the arrival figures of last year. This reduction in the arrivals is an indication of a lower crop, said Dhiren Sheth, president of CAI. Lower production, higher return expectations by farmers have led to a fall in cotton arrivals by 11% in the ongoing season for 2015-16.

The industry feels that since the farmers were expecting higher returns for their produce, they had restricted arrivals during the season. The ones with a holding capacity are still expecting the price to go up further.

Local yarn industry was not able to compete with outside industries as there tax structure on yarn is in the range of 0-2 percent very low compared to the tax structure of Punjab. With the Punjab government reducing the value added tax (VAT) on cotton yarn and cloth from 6.05 percent to 3.63 per cent, now the gap has been reduced.

VAT imposed in Uttar Pradesh on cotton yarn is zero percent while in Rajasthan, it is around two per cent.

Baranovichi Cotton Production Association plans to restore exports; the task is to double exports to the EU in 2016, said General Director Ivan Turchak.

Baranovichi Cotton Production Association sells 70% of its output domestically and exports the rest, with Russia being the main sales market.

The apex body of textile mills in the South, Southern India Mills’ Association has appealed to the Union Government to release additional funds of Rs. 5,500 crore for the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme to clear the dues (subsidy amount) that need to be paid to the textile units under the scheme.

Hundreds of textile units in the country would be shut down if the Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF) subsidy is not released on time, said SIMA.
