India-Sri Lanka "Shilpa Kala", an exhibition cum sale of traditional handicrafts and textiles, for "Sangam: Festival of India in Sri Lanka 2015-2016" will be held from March 23 to 27. This was announced by the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka.

Reliance Industries, the world's second-largest synthetic fibre manufacturer, has entered into a brand alliance with Precot Meridian a coimbatore-based sewing threads leader to use Reliance’s Recron SHT Brand on its sewing threads brand, RIL said in a statement.

As per the agreement for co-branding for polyester sewing thread yarn range, Precot will manufacture grey and coloured polyester sewing thread yarns using Reliance's Recron SHT, claimed to be one of the quality super high tenacity fibres. This yarn will then be sold, co-branded with Recron SHT.

Japan, Vietnam work together for promotion textile industry

At a joint committee meeting between Japan and Vietnam in Hanoi on Saturday, the two countries agreed to work together for the promotion of the textile industry in Vietnam. The agreement is aimed at dealing with an expected increase in Vietnamese textile exports to the United States once the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement enters into force.

Japan, Vietnam and the United States are among the 12 nations that signed the TPP deal earlier this year.

Rising cost, weak demand plunges textile exports by 9pc in July-Feb

With escalating cost of doing business and weak demand in the international markets, textile exports in the first eight months of the current fiscal year has plunged nine percent to $8.363 billion hitting the Pakistan’s major foreign exchange spinner, as per analysts.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data, textile exports amounted to $9.166 billion in July-February of 2014/15.
