Thailand, Vietnam garment and textile industries need to strengthen co-operation

Thailand and Vietnam garment and textile industries to improve competitiveness and exploit the ASEAN market need to strengthen co-operation. Establishing fully vertical integrated-supply chain between Thailand and Vietnam would be one of the big steps toward granting and sustaining competitiveness.

Nguyen Van Tuan, deputy general secretary of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, said that in recent years Vietnam has emerged as a production hub for garment and textile products. However, the industry has had to import up to 85% of materials needed for production.

Deep Roots, the new fiber and textile art exhibit arranged by Anita Jain of Common Strands, an international fiber arts nonprofit organization. The event will open on Saturday, March 28 from 3 to 5pm at the Dassel History Center, 901 First St. N.

Approximately 50 works from 23 American fiber artists whose roots are in the Nordic countries will be exhibited. Their art reflects their deep rooted feelings for the old traditions and the appreciation and awe for their forefathers’ strength and sacrifices it took to start a new live so very far from home, Jain said.

Hey Tekstil’s factory in the southeastern Anatolian city of Batman well known for its quality among the company’s European customers has contracts in eight factories located in İstanbul, Çankırı, Nevşehir, Kastamonu and Batman for the production of textiles and ready-wear clothing for global brands.

The company currently owns and runs a textile manufacturing plant in this southeastern Anatolian city in partnership with a local company. The extension was constructed on an 11,000 square-meter block of land, and it will commence production in August.

India’s textiles exports competitiveness is on downward trend even countries like Sri Lanka and Turkey are more competitive in the sector. The Commerce Ministry is considering bringing out its own strategy paper for the sector to enhance competitiveness of textile exports.

Textiles Ministry, too, is in the process of rolling out a National Textiles Policy, which aims to achieve USD 300 billion exports by 2024-25 and envisages creation of additional 35 million jobs.
