The Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) has launched its 29th edition of India Carpet Expo on March 27, 2015, in New Delhi which was inaugurated by Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State for Textile in the presence of Dr. Sanjay Kumar Panda, Secretary Textile and Mr. Samir Kumar Biswas, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts). The event is launched to showcase the weaving skills of Indian hand-knotted carpet artisans amongst the overseas carpet buyers.

State Textile Minister Chandrakant Patil told the Legislative Assembly that the new textile policy would be unveiled soon that will address issues of high electricity tariff and also include measures such as cotton-to-garment-manufacturing at a single point for setting up textile units.

The focus of new textile policy would be also on setting up textile parks in Vidarbha and Marathwada. It's not only expected to reduce farmer suicides but also generate employment.

San Yang Textile, a joint-stock cotton spinning and weaving company , as part of the conversion of the company’s existing ring spinning machines into compact spinning has placed an order for 170,000 EliTe Compact Spindles with German company Suessen. The project is supposed to go into full production still in 2015.

At present San Yang has 500,000 ring spindles installed and 340 sets of air-jet looms as main production capacity. The annual output of is 30,000 tons of cotton greige yarns and 40 million meters of cotton woven greige fabrics.

Prime quality cotton price surged to five-month high at Rs5,340 per maund (37.324 kilograms) at the local markets on Thursday as many textile mill-owners were taking fresh positions in prime quality cotton because of two reasons; one the leftover stock of the commodity was low. Secondly, the next harvesting of the commodity is delayed by two to four weeks.

According to Naseem Usman, a broker at the Karachi Cotton Exchange, the increase in cotton price is seen following a surge of Rs100 per 40kg in phutti (seed cotton).
