New brand ‘g.a.s’ for trendy office goers

Sayrung Prajit who holds a boutique in Siam Square – Vintage Corner – known for its rare vintage pieces, old-fashioned bridal gowns and costume jewellery created between the 1920s and the '90s has created a new brand “g.a.s” for trendy office goers.

Her teammates include her mates Kullaya Kassakul and Pimsiri Kanthitinun. After the brand's launch last month, Sayrung decided to devote the prime portion of her boutique to showcase her new colourful, vintage-inspired line that includes easy to mix-and-match pieces.

Texprocil (The Cotton Textile Promotion Council of India), which has been the international face of cotton textiles from India facilitating exports worldwide are not in accordance with the export-import policy.

According to them ,the textile sector ,the second largest employment provider in the country has been totally ignored, especially the cotton yarn sector, that too at a time when its facing high logistics costs when exported to markets like Latin America. Also, the exports of cotton yarn have declined sharply.

Pakistan textile industry is incurring an annual loss of around $6 billion due to the presence of second-hand, smuggled textiles and clothing in the domestic market. Out of 10kg per capita consumption, the textile industry gets a share of only 3kg per capita while rest is grabbed by second hand, smuggled and imported textiles and clothing products that have entered into the domestic market, according to All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Chairman S M Tanveer.

The Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2015-2020 which was undraped by Minister of State for Commerce & Industry Nirmala Sitharaman on 2nd April ,2015 provides a framework for increasing exports of goods and services as well as generation of employment and increasing value addition in the country, in keeping with the Make in India vision of Prime Minister.

The local chapter of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed the policy saying, it has bold initiatives and aims to achieve a compound annual growth rate of 11.5 per cent so as to increase the Merchandise and Services Exports.

Vietnam is ranked amongst the world’s top 5 nations in textile and clothing exports. The exports of textile and apparel products continued to grow in 2014 despite the difficulties in global economy.

But its strong growth of cotton imports is likely to slow next season. The deceleration forecast for next season reflects ideas of reduced demand for yarn by China, where authorities are attempting to boost use of domestic supplies, and erode the huge inventories that the country ran up through a generous guaranteed pricing regime, that was withdrawn last year.
