Prices remain firm on the cotton market in Pakistan

In the process of modest trading, dealers said that prices maintained firmness on the cotton market on Saturday. Some leading mills were on the sidelines owing to less buying interest as per market sources. The prices of seed cotton in Sindh were at Rs 2100-2700 and in Punjab at Rs 2500-3100. The official spot rate remained unmoved at Rs 5500

Experts attributed the fall in activity to larger stock with the leading buyers as they had bought major stock than their needs, so some exporters selling their cotton stock to needy mills.

It was just a few months ago that Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought in respite and cheer to the weavers of his constituency, when he announced a financial aid to boost the textile industry - an over Rs.2,000 crore ($315) package for 16 sick cooperative banks to make loans easily available for the region's weavers.

Foundation stone was laid of an apparel and garment centre to be set up under the North East Region Textiles Promotion Scheme by Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Friday. The apparel and garment centre will help promote textile sector.

On this occasion the Chief minister said that the focus of the state government has been to create job spaces for the youth within the State rather than the usual placement for jobs in other parts of the country.

Pakistan, a cotton producing country ranks the eighth largest US cotton importer. The country imported1.69 lakhs of cotton bales from US in the previous fiscal year. In the current fiscal year (2014-15), Pakistan has committed to import more than 3.35 lakh bales from US.

Dahlen K Hancock, president of Cotton Council International (CCI) believes there is potential for even greater sales of US cotton to this growing market. CCI, which is the US’s export promotions arm, conducted the trade mission.

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has announced that it will take part in two major trade fairs in India this year to push trade ties as a large number of exhibitors and visitors come from member countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc).

The first will be the Chandigarh Fair which will be organized by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) from November 6 to 9, 2015 in Chandigarh.

Pakistan textile exports increased by 2.94 pc recording $1.081 bn in April

Pakistan textile exports witnessed increase by 2.94 percent recording $1.081 billion in April against the exports of of $1.05 billion same month of last year. Similarly on month on month basis the textile group exports in April also increased by 4.6 percent from $1.033 billion in March 2014 to $1.081 billion in April, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The textile products that witnessed increase in trade include cotton carded or combed export of which increased by 2.49 percent, by going up from $6.1 million last year to $6.253 million this year.

Foundation stone laid for additional facility for Textile park in Amravati

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis laid foundation stone for starting additional facilities for Textile Park in Nandgaon Peth MIDC, Amravati. Fadnavis announced that on the lines of Nandgaonpeth, eight more textile parks would be set up at Yavatmal, Buldana, Jalgaon, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed and Nanded.

Admitting that farmer suicides were reported mostly from the cotton-growing areas, he said that his government gives special priority to providing irrigation facilities and setting up cotton processing units in these areas.
