Thailand based Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL) completed the deal to acquire the purified terephtalic acid (PTA) industrial plant of Spanish petrochemical company CEPSA Chimie Montréal s.e.c in Montreal, Canada. With the acquisition of Cepsa's PTA plant, Indorama is set to become an integrated player in the North American PET market.

The tech giant Google has teamed up with jeans retailer Levi Strauss for a project to make touch sensitive clothes which is to bring a revolution into the textile world. The project Jacquard aims to bring touch goodness to fabrics. So if you want to control a device, you could control it from a track pad built into a fabric, say for example, your clothes or the arm of a sofa.

The name Project Jacquard came from Joseph Marie Jacquard, the French weaver, who invented the a mechanical loom(Jacquard loom) that could produce complexly-woven fabrics with patterns and designs.

Fairly small trade activity was witnessed at Pakistan cotton market on Monday as some leading buyers kept on the sidelines due to little interest in fresh buying, according to dealers.

At Karachi cotton exchange, the official spot rate remained static at Rs 5450.

Surat, the biggest man-made fabric (MMF) hub, with the daily production pegged at 3.5 crore meters contributes 40 percent of the country’s man-made fabric demand after saris and dress materials is gaining popularity for its disposable beach wear fabrics.

The fabrics are made from second quality yarn and are available on dirt cheap prices of less than Rs 20 per meter. A wearer can dump the clothes and there is no need to re-use them. Around 40 lakh meters of low-cost fabric is manufactured per day for beach wear. The beach fabric turnover
per annum is pegged at Rs 700 crore.
