Unifi plans to increase polyester texturing capacity up to 10percent

Greensboro, N.C-based Unifi Inc. a leading producer of multi-filament polyester and nylon textured yarns and related raw materials has announced plans to increase polyester texturing capacity in the United States and Central America by up to 10 percent.

The expansion includes new texturing machines in Yadkinville, N.C., Madison, N.C., and El Salvador.

Unifi reports the investment is driven by the growing demand for man-made yarns in the NAFTA and CAFTA regions.

CCI likely to incur loss of Rs2.5k-cr on cotton procurement operation

The state-run Cotton Corporation Of India (CCI) that procures the fibre from farmers at minimum support prices (MSPs) to prevent distress sales by farmers and sells the stocks later in the market. Any loss incurred out of the procurement operation is reimbursed by the government. In the current marketing year through September, the government will likely incur record losses of around Rs2,500 crore on its cotton procurement operations.

A seminar on Challenges and Opportunities in Textile Processing – A Way Forward was held on 21 May 2015 organised by the Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit. The chief guest was R R Gorakhia, Director, Textiles Committee, Ministry of Textiles. S M Khire, Director – Operations, Welspun Syntex Ltd. was the Guest of Honour.

The seminar was held in Thane for the benefit of textile processing clusters around the city of Mumbai. The focus was mainly on Green Environment and Green Technology. The seminar was attended by over 150 participants.

Led by Professor Xiaoming Tao, researchers at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University have developed a new yarn manufacturing technology that can increase productivity with less energy consumption. The technology has been named Nu-TorqueTM. The technology with acceptable quality and efficiency can spin low-twist yet high-strength singles yarns with low residual torque. Their method can reduce yarn twist by 20-40% compared to the conventional method – being the lowest among all ring spinning methods.

Cotton price for second consecutive session moved lower

Pakistan cotton prices for the second consecutive session moved lower. On Tuesday, cotton prices came under pressure due to lack of buying interest. The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) also reduced its spot rates for second straight session by Rs50, to Rs5,400 per maund.

Disappointed over the Gas Infrastructure Deve¬lop¬ment Cess (GIDC) Act, 2015, spinners reduced their activity.

Egyptian cotton witness increase in its exports by 94.3pc annually

The total volume of Egyptian cotton exports witnessed increase during the second quarter of the 2014-15 agricultural season, to reach 246,000 metric quintals, growth by 94.3 percent year-on-year, compared to 126,600 metric quintals exported in the same period during the last season, according to a Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Increase in export is attributed to the low Egyptian cotton prices due to the increased inventory of cotton since the previous season.

Vietnam to sign the FTA and EEU to boost bilateral trade revenue

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is scheduled to leave for Kazakhstan on Thursday to attend the signing ceremony for the Vietnam – EEU Free Trade Agreement, according to Dau Tu (Investment) newspaper. One such trade pact is the FTA between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union, which is slated for signing by the end of this month.

The EEU consists of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Russia.
