British clothing retail witnessed rise in sales volumes in April by a stronger-than-expected 1.2 percent from March as consumers took advantage of falling prices and unusually warm weather encouraged shoppers to buy new clothes. It is the biggest monthly increase since November, according to the Office for National Statistics. Annual sales growth picked up pace to 4.7 per cent.

The pound jumped to its highest level in two months against the euro and strengthened by one percent against the dollar.

Of these two were major MoUs including creation of new smart city spread over 20 sq km entailing investment of Rs 19,000 crore and industrial park.

Polyester chain pricing is under weak correction

Asian ethylene prices stayed flat amid weak PE market and turnarounds. Polyethylene prices were seen softening on a combination of weaker LLDPE futures, tapering agricultural demand and falling domestic prices in China. In Europe, ethylene spot also remained flat as market awaited production restarts. In US, ethylene spot slipped after restarts of two US Gulf Coast producers’ plants while Evangeline in-service date was expected by 15 June.

Ikea, the Swedish multinational company who achieved sales of ¤30.1 billion last year in its 361 stores worldwide, is looking to produce mattresses and flat-pack furniture in Indonesia next year, as well as textiles and batik-pattern products by 2017 as it has set its sights on boosting its export value, tenfold to US$1 billion in the long-run. It will produce more in Indonesia, said Tony Mampuk, Ikea Indonesia’s country government relation manager.

Cotton buying remained stable with textile mill-owners continuing to make day-to-day buying depending on their everyday need, a dealer said on Wednesday. At the local market the trade turnover of cotton maintained stability at 3,500 bales (155 kilogram each).

According to brokers at the Karachi Cotton Exchange, medium to small size cotton yarn manufacturers, on an average, are buying up to 5,000 bales per day, while some of the big textile mill-owners are also in the markets for selling the commodity from their reserves built at a comparatively cheaper rate.
