India’s textile and clothing exports in the 10 month period of April 2014 to January 2015 witnessed growth of almost four percent to $34 billion as per the Union textiles ministry data. This means $41 billion for the year, growth of only 3.8 percent as against the rise of 12.4 percent to $39.3 billion in 2013-14.

Sluggish global demand and declining competitiveness is likely to see less of export in 2014-15 for the textile and clothing (T&C) sector. According to industry sources, it should be five percent.

Vardhman Textiles, in its Q4 results has shown decline in net profit by 41.55% to Rs. 90.20 crore in the quarter ended March 2015 as against Rs. 154.32 crore during the previous quarter ended March 2014. Sales increased 9.79% to Rs. 1407.79 crore in the quarter ended March 2015 as against Rs. 1282.21 crore during the previous quarter ended March 2014.

Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognized worldwide as the leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers. GOTS-certified facilities are now located in 64 countries around the world. The number of facilities certified to the GOTS has growth by more than 18 percent last year, from 3,085 facilities in 2013 to 3,663 facilities in 2014.

Countries with the greatest increase in GOTS certification in 2014 are (in rank order) are: India (+338), Bangladesh (+89), Germany (+32), Turkey (+21) and China (+18).

Vietnam's Da Nang City’s Investment Promotion Center though saw a sharp decline of 45 percent in foreign direct investment (FDI) capital in the first three months of the year still turned down two foreign invested projects capitalized at hundreds of millions of dollars on the grounds that they may cause environmental problems.

Both of the projects were in the textile, dying and garment sector, including a $200 million project registered by an investor from Hong Kong and another registered by an investor from South Korea.

Pakistan local markets witnessed renewed demand in almost all kinds of cotton after traders found the offered prices attractive. Trade turnover of cotton increased doubled to 6,000 bales (of 155 kilogram each), as several textile mill-owners found the offered price attractive to have bought the commodity, said a dealer at Karachi Cotton Exchange on Tuesday.

A few exporters took positions in low quality cotton.

The Karachi Cotton Association kept its official rate unchanged for the third working day at Rs5,450/maund.
