National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd (NHDC) keeping in view the Digital India Initiative of Government of India and for the benefit of handloom weavers and society has developed a handy tool, a mobile app 'E Dhaga'.

The app ‘W Dhaga’ will benefit handloom weavers to transact business anytime, anywhere and they can send their indents and payments online through this app. The weavers can also access the status of the shipment of the despatched material, thereby, enhancing transparency.

Despite the demonetization drive, which has affected the domestic and export industry sentiment, the Yarn Fabric & Accessories Trade Show; YFA 2016 which was held from November 23-26, 2016 in New Delhi, saw visitor numbers climbing 15 per cent over the previous edition to 8,598 buyers. A majority of the 148 exhibitors participating at the show also expressed satisfaction with the numbers as well as the quality of the buyers.

In China, FDY70D/24F SD prices jumped US cents 25 a kg in the first week of December while FDY40D rose US cents 28 a kg on the week. DTY 70D/24F prices surged US cents 28 a kg while 30D/10F were up US cents 31 a kg on the week.

Monofilament 30D prices climbed US cents 14 a kg, while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices were up US cents 14 a kg on the week.

Asian caprolactum prices surged US$190 a ton SE and FE markers in the first week of December. In China, spot offers for liquid goods swelled US$485 a ton during the week.

Caprolactum prices swelled to 2 year high given healthy downstream demand, recovering raw materials and tight supply. In China, liquid and solid good offers jumped 13 per cent week on week in spot market.

In contract, Sinopec and Fibrant raised their nomination for December taking cue from the jumping spot values. Downstream, run rates at polymerization and yarn makers were running at 70% with low inventory.

AFK Sistema, Russian financial conglomerate owned by a local billionaire Vladimir Yevtushenkov, seeing big potential in the domestic technical textiles market is considering expanding its operations in the domestic technical textiles and fabrics market in the coming years, said Mikhail Shamolin, President of AFK Sistema.

Planned volume of investments that could be allocated by Sistema in the Russian technical textiles market is not disclosed at the moment, however, according to some analysts, they may be in the range of US$ 150-200 million at the initial stage.

The Central Silk Board (CSB) to launch its second Centre of Excellence for sericulture in Bengaluru tomorrow to boost the silk industry which has been stagnating for some time. This will provide a fillip to Karnataka’s status as the premier sericulture hub of India. The first centre was set up at Ranchi in Jharkhand.

CSB Chairman K M Hanumantharayappa said that the Centre would be launched by Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani. She would also be launching the Automatic Reeling Machine at the CSB premises.

In China, offers for ring‐spun 30s yarn rolled over in the first week of December while compact siro‐spun 40s yarn was flat on the week.

Spun viscose yarn markets were generally lukewarm in China. Rotor‐spun yarn and core‐spun yarn that were in demand previously met with thinner demand, while orders for some high‐count yarn picked up. That week’s fall in VSF prices helped spinners restore their margins, after yarn offers have been kept unchanged.

In Pakistan, viscose yarn prices stayed unchanged after falling in the past weeks as VSF prices stabilised in China.

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices were up US cents 3 a kg in the first week of December while 45s PC combed yarn prices were stable on the week.

Blended yarn markets in Asia were mixed as some spec prices inched up while others rolled over in China, India and Pakistan. In China, blended yarn producers were not been able to raise prices in line with the higher material costs, implying decline in their margins.

PSF prices have jumped to higher levels while VSF in contrast, prices are now returning to lower levels after a short-lived attempt to raise prices.
