The Ministry of Textiles have take an initiative to organize first ever Investors’ Summit exclusively for the Northeast (NER) in association with the Ministry of DoNER and industry associations FICCI and CII with an aim to showcase the NER as a global destination for investment, and explore possibility of convergence of efforts of various central Ministries and North Eastern States to attract investment in NER.

India’s exports of cotton and cotton products, such as yarn and fabric in 201-17 to China, the world’s largest textile and garment exporter, dropping to $416.14 million, while those to Bangladesh touches $613.16 million in the first half of the current fiscal according to official data. Bangladesh may emerge as the largest importer of such item for the first time to China.

The Amhara Regional State Technical, Vocational and Enterprises Development Bureau, Ethiopia has created market links for 71,022 enterprises both locally and internationally by incorporating 161,000 mobilizer. This could possibly generate over 598,000,000 ETB in local markets, said Deputy Head with the Bureau, Kassa Alemu.

According to Kassa, 22 international enterprises have benefitted 565 mobilizers and could be possible to generate 420,000 USD.

A seminar on "Doing Business with Pakistan" was held on 21st Decemebr in Kuala Lumpur, jointly organized by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and High Commission of Pakistan Malaysia saw participation of over 200 Malaysian companies and Pakistani businessmen. High Commissioner of Pakistan in Malaysia, Syed Hassan Raza at the seminar said that both countries Pakistan and Malaysia to facilitate businesses under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) are negotiating to further reduce duties on existing and additional tariff lines.

Sinopec Group, China’s super large petroleum and petrochemical enterprise group has started construction of a long-planned ethylene complex in the southern city of Zhanjiang.

The mega project, which includes construction of a refinery, is being built on the basis of a preliminary agreement as part of a 50:50 venture with the OPEC member Kuwait. The ethylene complex is likely to be completed by 2020.

At a conference on technical textiles and non-wovens organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Coimbatore on Thursday, Mr. Senthil Kumar, chairman of Southern India Mills’ Association said that technical textiles is one of the fastest growing segments in the textile industry and it is expected to attract Rs. 1 lakh crore investments by 2025.

Of the 12 major technical textile items, packtech has the largest share with 42 percent. The next are industrial textiles and home textiles, each accounting for about 10 percent.

The apparel export industry is poised to grow in 2017 with the initiatives announced by the government along with the good quality products aided by innovative design prowess will drive the change for the industry. Ashok Rajani, Chairman AEPC said in the evening of the award for excellence in global exports for apparel sector.

Polyester yarn price continues upward trend in Pakistan, stable in India

In Shengze, offers for 32s and 45s polyester yarn were up in the first week of December. In Qiangqing, 32s weaving yarn was offered flat during the week. In US$ term, they were up US cents 2-6 a kg on the week, due to strong Yuan.

Spun polyester yarn offers picked up further in China driven by PSF values, and the transaction was moderate. Since there was less than one month before China’s Lunar New Year, yarn producers started arranging shutdowns for the holiday. Meanwhile, PSF prices jumped to higher levels, gaining 3% in the week.

PTA price moves up amid rising feedstock cost

Asian PTA prices were up US$8-9 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia marker in the first week of December. In China, offers for nearby-month goods were kept steady during the week.

Yisheng Petrochemical raised its selling price by US$5 a ton while Hengli Petrochemical also hiked US$5 a ton during the week.

Purified terephthalic acid prices rose in Asian markets on bullish futures and rising feedstock paraxylene cost. In China, domestic PTA market moved up followed by correction that week.
