Kerala Industries minister A C Moideen at the joint meeting of the state textile sector trade union leaders and management representatives convened to evolve solutions to the problems faced by textile workers informed that officials has been directed to open all the defunct spinning mills in the state on an immediate basis.

Hereinto, offers for ring‐spun 30s yarn mostly ascended in Yuan terms but weak currency pegged prices stable in US$ terms while siro‐spun 40s yarn increased in both terms. Core‐spun yarn market north of Jiangsu turned dim.

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices were up US cents 3 a kg in the second week of December while 45s PC combed yarn prices were stable on the week. Blended yarn prices were supported by rising PSF and VSF prices that week although cotton movement was sluggish. In China, PV and PC yarn prices have begun inching up on sharper increase of PSF prices over the week.

Pakistan cotton crop output likely to improve during this season (2016-17). However, there is not doubt that It would remain lower side but better compared to previous season (2015-16) mainly due to favourable weather conditions.

China is the world's top textile exporter due to smog that has blanketed the north of the country in the past few days, cotton mills have stopped buying raw cotton and have suspended output in Hebei and parts of Shandong, the two Chinese provinces both major growing regions for the fibre, as part of measures to curb smog, according to a report by Cncotton.com, a government-backed trade website.

As on date, there is no single point of contact where weavers can seek solutions for their technical issues/problems. The Ministry of Textiles has decided to establish a 'Bunkar Mitra-Handloom Helpline Centre' where professional queries of weavers will be answered by the experts in the field.

Currently there are 28 Weavers' Service Centres (WSCs) functioning across the country to provide technical assistance to handloom weavers in improving their skills. But for seeking assistance, weavers have to personally visit the WSCs. The helpline centre will help to overcome these problems.
