Paraxylene price declines across all regions

Asian paraxylene prices edged down US$5.33 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the second week of February. Isomer-grade mixed xylene declined US$20 a ton FOB Korea a ton on the week.

Paraxylene prices fell weekend and on the week in Asian markets on weaker sentiment and heavy selling as April offers fell to just above the spot. Isomer mixed xylene also fell as demand stayed sluggish. Buying power from China and Taiwan was weak.

India aims to increase silk production in 3-4 years to become self sufficient

India is expected to be self-sufficient in silk production by 2020 with an annual growth rate of 19 percent, the aim is to produce around 34,000 MTs. At present the output is 28,000 MTs (metric tonne) to 30,000 MTs and the production is growing year to year, said Central Silk Board (CSB) Chairman K M Hanumantharayappa.

China produces 80 percent of global silk output, while India's share is 13 percent, while the production in other countries account for the remaining 7 percent.

Milano Unica Pavilion to feature again at the Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics 2017 Spring Edition at premium Salon Europe area in March, following a highly successful showing last October. The pavilion is by invitation only, recorded a 20 percent increase in buyers compared to the previous Autumn Edition of Intertextile Shanghai, with Milano Unica pleased with not just this growth but a rise in the quality of the buyers too. The textile dyeing and printing mills at Sachin GIDC which require around 60 million litre per day (MLD) of water, against which around 50% is managed through private tankers, a huge additional cost for unit owners, which is getting unbearable now.

Following acute shortage of water for the last two months, about 60-odd textile units are on the verge of closure. Forget about running the mills, thousands of workers employed in the mills are not even getting water to drink.

Nylon yarn price rises amid high raw material cost

In China, FDY70D/24F SD prices jumped US cents 14 a kg in the second week of February, while FDY40D were up US cents 15 a kg on the week. DTY 70D/24F prices also surged US cents 13 a kg and 30D/10F were up US cents 7 a kg on the week.

Monofilament 30D prices were up US cents 7 a kg while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices soared US cents 14 a kg on the week.

Nylon filament yarn producers hiked offers further to relieve cost pressure as prices of nylon chip and caprolactum picked up. Demand also picked up as converters resumed operations.

Caprolactum price jumps on tight supply

Asian caprolactum prices were up US$80 a ton SE and FE in the second week of February while East European goods were also up on the week.

Caprolactum prices were lifted citing tight supply and on the back of strong benzene. In China, offers for liquid and solid goods edged up on cost support.

Viscose yarn price inches up in China, Pakistan

In China, offers for ring‐spun 30s weaving yarn in Xiaoshan were up US cents 4 a kg in the second week of February, while compact siro‐spun 40s yarn in Jiangsu was up US cents 3 a kg on the week.

Spun viscose yarn makers gradually returned in China, but offers mostly inched up from the pre-holiday levels due to cautious mood among the makers. Fresh deals were gradually following up.
