Maharashtra State Handloom Corporation (MSHDC), Nagpur goes for Geographical Indication (GI) registration for Karwatkathi saree and Karwat material in order to preserve the traditional art and give it a worldwide recognition and increase employment of the weavers.

Nagpur and Bhandara districts has craved a niche for itself in the production of Tussar silk is also known for‘Karwatkathi’ saree and Karwat material. It takes about 7 to 8 day in making one ‘Karwatkathi’ saree.

The 2017 Vietnam international screen printing and digital printing technology exhibition (ASGA Vietnam 2017) which opened yesterday on 18th May organized by Asia Pacific Screen Printing and Digital Imaging Association (ASGA) showcased State-of-the-art printing technology, equipment and applications.

ASGA Vietnam 2017 for the first time saw the participation of over 200 enterprises from 13 nations, including Japan, China, India, Thailand, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.

Polyester yarn price sees downtrend in Asian markets

In China, offers for 32s polyester yarn in Shengze were down US cent 3 a kg in the first week of May. In Zhejiang, 32s weaving yarn dropped US cents 2 a kg on the week.

Polyester spun yarn market in China extended the weak trend and producers in Shengze lowered offers, with goods mainly sold to meet rigid demand. Offers of some specs in Shandong and Zhejiang were also adjusted down.

PTA price slips in Asia

Asian PTA prices edged down US$10 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia in the first week of May. In China, offers for bonded goods also softened US$10 a ton on the week. Yisheng Petrochemical’s selling price was cut by US$5 a ton while Hengli Petrochemical’s selling price was lowered by US$10 a ton.

Pakistan Yarn Merchants Association (PYMA) urge government to save polyester filament fabric industry from further disaster. In this regard, PYMA has issued an SOS (distress call) to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan and Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Revenue Haroon Akhter.

Moderate trading at cotton market amid strong physical prices

Moderate trading activity witnessed at the cotton market amid strong physical prices with around 9,000 bales changed hands. While, at the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate unchanged at Rs 6,700 per maund, fibre traders said.

Leading buyers remained eager for quality lint and bought fine lots on slightly higher prices during the trading session.

According to senior trader, Ghulam Rabbani, leading buyers were concentrating on better grades and the ginning units kept maintaining quality as big groups were making deals for future needs.

The government is mulling to increase the minimum support price (MSP) of cotton by Rs 160 per quintal, to Rs 4,320 for the 2017-18 crop year beginning July as farmers are preparing fields for kharif sowing.

According to sources, the Agriculture Ministry has proposed increase in cotton MSP by Rs 160 per quintal for the 2017-18 crop year, based on the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).

Ghanaian government plans to revive the onetime special initiatives on garments and textiles as part of it’s industrialisation drive to create employment and boost growth, announced Trades and Industries Minister, Mr Alan Kyerematen at the opening of the second National Single Window conference on trade facilitation in Accra.

Mr Kyerematen said that the garment textiles and the automobile assembling plants were key areas the government was seeking to diversify into, hopefully within the next five years.
