With Indian textile and clothing industry aiming to increase its exports to Japan, the government has decided to enter into an MoU with Japan Textile Products Quality and Technology Centre (QTEC) through the Textiles Committee to jointly set up and encourage quality compliance activities to comply with quality requirements of the Japanese market, the Textiles Ministry said.

QTEC provides facilities for quality evaluation, standardisation, technology evaluation, conformity assessment, technical guidance and education, factory certification for the textile industry of Japan.

At present Vietnam textile and clothing firms top concern is to ensure stable production and incomes for labourers are reluctant to implement Industry 4.0 practice, said Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), Vu Duc Giang stated that, in the past a factory with 30,000 spindles for making thread required up to 450 labourers. In the wake of Industry 4.0, a factory of comparable size now requires only 30 labourers maximum.

The Pakistan government plans to reinstate the tariff after a gap of nearly seven months in response to recent large purchases from overseas. It will impose a four percent customs duty and five percent sales tax on cotton import by the middle of July, a statement said on Tuesday.

On a proposal by the Finance Division, the ECC (The Economic Coordination Committee) of the Cabinet)) approved the restoration of import duty and sales tax on import of cotton with effect from 15th July 2017, the government statement said.

Asian MEG prices inched up US$3 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia marker in the first week of May. Mono ethylene glycol prices inched up on incremental demand in China as polyester plants are set to restart. Falling crude and stable ethylene also supported MEG markets.

In China, market fundamental improved in a limited room and fluctuated in a small range that week, but will continue to fluctuate in the coming week as more MEG units will be shut for maintenance.

Asian paraxylene prices plunged US$24.67 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the first week of May. Isomer-grade mixed xylene prices fell US$35.50 a ton FOB Korea on the week.

Paraxylene prices plunged in Asia for last three consecutive days amid pressure from falling crude oil futures and weaker upstream and downstream markets. Isomer mixed xylene prices tumbled as crude slid and market awaited consumption tax clarity.
