VN textile sector sees India for new raw material sources

Việtnam is one of the five biggest exporters in the world with exports of US$28.5 billion last year. But to achieve this, the country imports large volumes of feedstock including yarn, fabric and others, said Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Mai, deputy general secretary of Việtnam Textile and Garment Association (VITAS).
However, the Vietnamese textile and garment industry needs to diversify its raw material import sources if it wants to develop.

Cotton price firm at lint market, no trading activity witnessed

At the Karachi Cotton Exchange, trading activity remain dull on Wednesday as buyers remained selective on grade issue during trading at lint market while prices remained firm, fibre traders said.

The spot rates remained unchanged at Rs6,700/maund (37.324kg) and Rs7,180/40kg. Ex-Karachi rates also stood firm at Rs6,835/maund and Rs7,325/40kg after an addition of Rs135 and Rs145 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

Cotton crop production targets during the season were fixed at 14.40 million bales as against the production targets of 14.1 million bales of last year.

China’s largest cotton textile manufacturer, Shandong Ruyi Technology Group, to make investment to the tune of $410 million in a manufacturing facility in Forrest City. Ruyi has agreed to renovate the former Sanyo facility in Forrest City for its plant, where Arkansas cotton will be spun into yarn for textile use. The Sanyo plant has been vacant since it shut down in 2007. The plant will be Ruyi’s first cotton-spinning facility in North America.

ASF price jumps in China

Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow offers inched up US cents 5 a kg in the last week of April. In China, medium-length fiber and cotton-type staple ASF prices were up US cents 3-7 a kg on the week.

Acrylonitrile price weakens in Asia, Europe

Asian acrylonitrile prices declined US$20 a ton CFR Far East Asia while South East rolled over in the last week of April. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were flat during the week.

Acrylonitrile prices fell in Asian markets on weak demand and falling cost support. Spot ACN prices in China softened during the week as market was dominated by pessimistic outlook, with traders getting more aggressive. Downstream demand was lusterless with ASF makers running at 87%, amid weak demand. ABS held stable amid insipid trades while acrylamide offers were reduced.

MEG price gains in Asia

Asian MEG prices gained US$6 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the last week of April. Mono ethylene glycol prices tumbled opening the week in Asian markets only to recover later and post a weekly rise as markets stabilized. In China, inventories were slowly consumed supporting domestic prices to rise. Market fundamental improved somewhat that week, while favorable influences were limited.

In Europe, spot MEG prices moved sideways on the week amid limited material inquiries while demand remained soft.

Paraxylene price slips across all regions

Asian paraxylene prices fell US$21 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the last week of April. Isomer-grade mixed xylene prices dropped US$6.50 a ton FOB Korea on the week.

Paraxylene prices declined in Asian markets as demand sobered dramatically while a late rally in crude prices limited further drop. Upstream, isomer grade mixed xylene values also dropped on falling downstream while supply will resume with Japanese refineries coming back from turnaround in June.

Anti dumping duty imposed on imports of elastomeric filament yarn

Elastomeric Filament Yarn, such filament yarns are commonly referred to as Spandex or Elastanc. Based on the recommendations of the Designated Authority in the commerce ministry, a definitive anti dumping duty has been imposed on it against imports from China, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.

The petition to levy anti-dumping duty on 'Elastomeric Filament Yarn' from these four countries was filed by Indorama Industry Ltd.

The revenue department has imposed anti-dumping duty that ranged from 'Nil' rate to $ 3.34 per kilogram depending on the producer and the country of export.

Cotton trading at KCE remain slow

KCE three transactions amid prices of Rs6,700 to Rs6,800/maund changed hands. Fort Abbas 400 bales were sold at Rs6,940/ maund, Jalalpur’s 6,800 bales were exchanged at Rs6,800/maund while Rahimyar Khan’s 244 bales at Rs6,700/maund.
