The Haryana state government announced the state specific Textile Policy on April 2017 aiming for integrated development of the textile industry with the state, at the same time remove the current mismatch across the value chain, said Credit rating agency ICRA on Wednesday.

The new state policy introduces measures such as capital subsidy at 10 percent for investment in Plant and Machinery (P&M) eligible under ATUFS (Amended TUFS). This will reduce the project cost upon commissioning;

The Vietnam textile and garment sector after observing good results in the first quarter due to rapid growth from new markets such as Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which saw a growth rate of 115% in Russia; and the Asian Economic Community (AEC) with growth of 17%, 11%, 38%, 24.5%, 36% and 5% from Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, respectively, enters the second quarter (Q2) of this year with promising signs from new import markets, said General Director of the Vietnam Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) Le Tien Truong.

Indonesian domestic textile products have continued to lose their foothold in competition on the domestic market over the past five years as imported products control 70 percent of the country’s domestic textile market, which is estimated to reach US$10 billion a year leaving only 30 percent of the market for domestic products, said the Indonesian Textile Association ( API) chairman Ade Sudrajat on Wednesday.

Hyosung Corp., a South Korea based leading chemical and textile company plans to ramp up its annual spandex production capacity in Vietnam to 80,000 tons from current 50,000 tons, a move that will make the plant to become its largest spandex manufacturing production base, and gradually increase the tire cord production capacity from current 100,000 tons per year.

Hyosung Corp. is expected to up investment in Vietnam after its operation in the Southeast Asian country delivered the most impressive earnings among its subsidiaries last year.

The Qatar Business Women Association (QBWA) has signed an agreement with the Turkey-based Industrialist Businesswomen and Businessmen's Confederation (Sankon), said commercial counsellor Burak Guresci as part of efforts to enhance Qatar-Turkey economic relations.

On the sidelines of this agreement , negotiations are ongoing for the staging of trade fairs and exhibitions in Qatar on Turkish textile and home textile goods. The exhibition aims to introduce new Turkish industries to Qatar.

MEG price hits a 6-month low in Asia

Asian MEG prices tumbled US$45 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia marker in the third week of April. Mono ethylene glycol spot hit a 6-month low on high stocks as prices tumbled amid ample supply in China and a rise in feedstock ethylene costs. Prices also plunged on talk of short-selling while in China, prices plummeted as inventory levels grew dramatically.

In US, spot MEG prices were firm and flat for a second consecutive week, as a balanced market continued to offset price movements. Barge activity continued to remain stagnant while China was at net back to low for US market.

Paraxylene price edges down in Asia, US

Asian paraxylene prices slightly edged down US$0.67 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the third week of April. Isomer-grade mixed xylene declined by a sharp US$24 a ton FOB Korea on the week.

Trading activity remain slow at cotton market

Trading activity at the Karachi Cotton Exchange on Tuesday remain slow, as better grades of lint remained in focus amid strong physical prices. Traders said that the volumes remained moderate as buyers made deals for better and second grade of lint to meet their domestic as well as international commitments of yarn and cloth.

Spot rates remained unchanged. The spot rates remained unchanged at Rs6,700/maund (37.324kg) and Rs7,180/40kg. Ex-Karachi rates also stood firm at Rs6,835/maund and Rs7,325/40kg after an addition of Rs135 and Rs145 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

Miri does not have big centres to showcase their batik and turn it into a major tourism sector. Although, there is huge potential for batik blouses, shirts and textiles because Bruneian women from across the border have a keen interest in buying these fine clothing materials.
