Turkish investment in Serbia is expected to grow in the short term as the country offers the best conditions for foreign direct investments (FDI) in the Western Balkans. The Balkan country is offering financial incentives, such as government subsidies, as well as a prime strategic position as a link between southern and central Europe and the emerging markets of Eastern Europe, said Aleksandar Medjedovic , the chairman of Turkey - Serbia Business Council.

At the Karachi Cotton Exchange slow trading continued on Thursday, while spot rates stood firm at Rs6,750/maund (37.324kg) and Rs7,234/40kg. Ex-Karachi rates also remained unchanged at Rs6,885/maund and Rs7,379/40kg after an addition of Rs135 and Rs145 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

The cotton market recorded only two transactions of 1,400 bales at Rs6,900 to Rs6,970/maund. Sadiqabad’s 1,000 bales were sold at Rs6,900/maund, while 400 bales of Noorpur Noranga exchanged hands at Rs6,970/maund.

Major Chinese wool buyers will attend for the first time in Australia at the Ballarat district property of leading Chinese importer and processor Tianuy wool. The conference’s theme is ‘From Farm to Fashion’ and it is a major step in building a wool bridge between Australia and China.

The Chinese buyers, who have been estimated to purchase $2 bn of Australian wool each year, are among 130 delegates attending the internal wool conference.

It is the first time the China Wool Industrial Association will be meeting outside China since it was formed more than 20 years ago.

Spun polyester yarn markets in China were in a slack season and covered by wait-and-see atmosphere. Downstream still purchased goods with caution to replenish inventories. Provided PSF market show a strong trend, downstream mills will probably be driven to buy a large volume of raw materials.

Asian PTA prices inched up US$4 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia in the second week of May. In China, offers for bonded goods also softened US$10 a ton on the week. Yisheng Petrochemical’s selling price was cut US$10 a ton while Hengli Petrochemical’s selling price was lowered US$20 a ton on the week.
