Viscose yarn price declines sharply in China, Pakistan

In China, offers for ring‐spun 30s weaving yarn in Xiaoshan fell US cents 2 a kg in the third week of May, while compact siro‐spun 40s yarn in Jiangsu declined US cents 4 a kg on the week. Viscose spun yarn prices declined in line with the VSF markets in China and Pakistan.

Liquidity in China was generally insipid, except for core‐spun yarn and a few high‐count yarns. Some yarn makers reportedly piled up inventory worth 30 days. However, given the fund pressure, some makers were heard to offload goods, while some intended to extend the holidays for the Dragon Boat Festival.

Blended yarn price remains stable in Asian markets

In China, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices remained unchanged in the third week of May in Zhejiang, while 45s PC combed yarn prices rolled over on the week. Blended yarn prices moved in tandem with the recent changes in fibre prices. In China, PC yarn prices rolled over reflecting firm cotton prices while PSF prices stopped declining, even bottoming out in the week.

Asia is undergoing major structural shifts in petrochemical with China and India leading the way. There’s a renewed push to build and upgrade refineries, and construct new naphtha crackers.

Amber Liu, senior manager at ICIS, speaking at Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference (APIC) held in Sapporo Japan said that by 2021-2022, there could be about 10 new naphtha crackers on stream. In the past, these would be built by only the major companies such as PetroChina and Sinopec. But now a number of private companies are planning these projects.

NGT directs reopening of textile units in Rajasthan

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has allowed the conditional reopening of 578 textile units engaged in dyeing and printing of cloth in Pali district of Rajasthan , with an assurance that any direction passed by the tribunal has to be complied with. These units had been shut for the last eight months for flouting pollution norms.

The Jodhpur bench of the tribunal, comprising Justice Jawad Rahim and member B S Sajwan, permitted the reopening of these industries.

The powerlooms in Telangana have already been given orders for school uniforms under the Rajiv Vidya Mission as well as bedsheets and blankets for hospitals. The Raymond, textile and apparel major plans investment to the tune of Rs 350 crore in capacity and retail expansion this year. Representatives of Pakistan's textile industry and the Pakistan Yarn Merchants Association (PYMA) has appealed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan to help save the polyester filament fabric industry from further disaster.

Around 300,000 knitting machines and looms have suspended operations during the last five years, resulting in directly and indirectly affecting a total of around 5 million people, Danish Hanif, chairman PYMA (Sindh-Balochistan Zone), said in the statement.
