Textile industry urge govt to continue ROSL scheme post GST

The textile industry fears that the Rebate of State Levies (ROSL) scheme will be withdrawn prematurely, with Goods and Service Tax (GST) subsuming all other taxes and benefits and hence urged the government to continue with the ROSL scheme post GST for the benefit of made up exports.

ROSL scheme was introduced in March 2017 initially for three years. Under ROSL, exporters of made ups get incentives of 3.9 percent of the value of exported goods.

Gujarat's first state-of-the-art cotton yarn spinning plant has been set up by the Surat Vankar Sahkari Sangh Limited in the cooperative sector at Dinod village in the tribal-dominated Mangrol taluka. The plant will be inaugurated by the minister of state for cooperative Ishwarsinh Patel on June 1.

The cotton spinning plant is set up on the 17 acre land in the tribal-dominated Mangrol taluka at the cost of Rs 140 crore, supported by the Gujarat government.

Moderate trading witnessed as cotton remain firm

At the cotton market, the prices of all grades of cotton stood firm during the trading session, according to traders. Around 9,600 bales changed hands.
The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate remained intact at Rs 6,850 per maund with better lint in focus, fibre traders reported.

Floor brokers said that leading buyers in Sindh and Punjab stations bought better grade lint on premium prices offered by ginners during the trading session.

BGMEA urge withdrawal of tax at source on RMG products

Bangaldesh Finance Minister AMA Muhith had proposed 1.5 percent tax at source on all products, including RMG, for 2016-17 fiscal year, but later cut it to 0.7 percent following demand by businesses.

However, BGMEA has demanded that the readymade garments sector be kept out of the purview of tax at source for next two fiscals since the industry experienced a gradual drop in export growth in past few years.

Union Minsiter of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta during his visit to Regional Oak Tasar Research Station (RTSR) located at Mantripukhri said that the Central Government will extend all possible help in promoting silk production in Manipur.

Manipur is the largest producer of silk in the entire north eastern state and there are varieties of silk available in the state and Scientist of the Station need to look into the process of producing new breed for higher production of silk.

MEG price moves up in Asia

Asian MEG prices surged US$94 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the third week of May. In China, offers for nearby-month cargoes climbed US$80 a ton on the week.

Mono ethylene glycol prices in Asian markets declined on weaker futures and traders taking profits early in the week, with both yuan-denominated swaps and US$-denominated spot cargoes trading sharply lower, especially midweek.

In Europe, MEG spot prices moved sideways as suppliers were unwilling to lower prices although demand remained tepid.

Paraxylene prices surge on high crude values

Asian paraxylene prices surged US$32.334 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the third week of May. Isomer-grade mixed xylene prices gained US$15.50 a ton FOB Korea on the week.

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets rose on the week following PTA futures and higher crude weekend amid quiet market due to an industry conference. Upstream, mixed xylene prices gained on positive market sentiment while inventories were stable in China.

Nylon yarn price sobers in Asia

In China, FDY70D/24F SD prices sobered US cents 4 a kg in the third week of May, while FDY40D fell US cent 1 a kg on the week. DTY 70D/24F prices were flat and 30D/10F were stable on the week. Monofilament 30D prices were steady while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices rolled over on the week.

Caprolactum prices flat in China

Asian caprolactum markers were flat in the third week of May. In China, spot liquid and solid good offers were stable during the week.

Caprolactum prices stopped falling given the rebound in benzene prices, with downstream market welcoming the recovery following buying activities at current low price levels. In China, offers for liquid and solid goods in spot market were range bound. Prices of East European goods were soft amid slow liquidity.
