At an expert appraisal meeting organized by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology confirmed that the graphene fiber preparation technology developed is in line with the leading level in the world.

The technology, which makes graphene completely combined with high polymer materials under room temperature, adds special function to ordinary textile products like antibacterial, ultraviolet-proof, anti-static and heat preservation effects.

Textile firm Mafatlal Industries to make a strong foray into apparel business by introducing ready-to-wear fashion wear at affordable pricing and for this they have identified three-four anchor categories. MD and CEO, Mafatlal Industries, Aniruddha Deshmukh said that their main strength is fabrics. They are one of the large manufacturers of denim in the country, and they also supply to domestic brands and international brands.

Mafatlal Industries was a popular and leading brand of yesteryear and now the company wants to restore the same old glory, Deshmukh said.

Asian paraxylene prices slipped US$35.67 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the fourth week of May. Isomer-grade mixed xylene prices also declined US$16 a ton FOB Korea on the week.

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets declined in line with fall across energy and aromatics sectors. Downstream PTA markets were also unsupportive as September futures fell in China. Meanwhile, isomer-grade mixed xylenes dropped on crude oil slide. S-Oil's Onsan plant was operating normally following scheduled maintenance of around 40 days.

In China, bright conventional spinning nylon-6 prices surged US$45 a ton in the fourth week of May while semi-dull high-speed spinning chip were up US$45-60 a kg on the week.

Nylon chip markets fluctuated upward on back of recovering caprolactum prices and flat to down crude oil and benzene cost. Although caprolactum markets lost steam late in the week nylon chip markets saw cautiously upbeat picture ahead. Demand was modest as converters kept stable operation, leading to rigid demand for nylon chip.

In China, spot liquid good offers were up US$30-55 a ton in the fourth week of May. Offers for liquid and solid goods in China jumped in spot market and discussions in East China were heard at higher levels. Meanwhile, Sinopec raised its May contract nomination while Fibrant settled May much lower than its nomination.

Asian caprolactum markers were down US$100 a ton SE and FE markers at the upper end. Caprolactum markets saw prices recover following active buying activities at current low price levels, although upstream benzene markets were subdued after surging last week.
