The researchers, from the University of Cambridge, working with colleagues in Italy and China, have demonstrated how graphene - a two-dimensional form of carbon - can be directly printed onto fabric to produce integrated electronic circuits which are comfortable to wear and can survive up to 20 cycles in a typical washing machine, opening up new possibilities for smart textiles and wearable electronics.

At Pakistan cotton market, prices hit season's high on Wednesday and the official spot rate was higher by Rs 50 to Rs 6500, dealers said. According to dealers more or less 200 bales of Baloch cotton sold at Rs 7000, Baloch cotton produced around 5000 bales per year.

In Sindh seed cotton prices were up by Rs 100 to Rs 2800-3300, in the Punjab rates were at Rs 2900-3400, as per 40 kg. Besides, in the ready session, over 25,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 5600-6800.

Reliance Industries showing interest in part or all of the unit of Alok and discussions are on with the company promoters and the resolution professional, as per people familiar with the development.

The interest may be focused on the polyester yarn unit as all the business is not of interest to Reliance because it would not add synergies, but one or two divisions may be value accretive to it. But there was no response from Reliance Industries to comment on this.

The Pakistani textile industry is badly in need of contamination-free fine and medium staple cotton to produce goods to meet the export requirement of quality textile products by the international buyers. Hence, APTMA Chairman Aamir Fayyaz urged federal government to immediately withdraw restrictions on import of cotton to let the industry meet the export.

He stressed that the government should immediately announce withdrawal of 4 percent Customs duty and 5 percent Sales tax as per the announcement made by the prime minister vide an initiative of export led growth package.

Anvar Jay Varadaraj, Head (Marketing and Corporate Communications), Elgi Equipments said that the most expensive component in the total cost of compressed air is energy.

More Chinese companies are showing an interest in investing in the east African country Ethiopia as it is striving to become the manufacturing hub of Africa. According to the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC), Chinese company, the Wuxi No. 1 Cotton Mill, part of the Guolian Development Group and one of the largest textile manufacturers in China will be soon establishing its presence in Ethiopia.

The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) is prepared to procure some 100 lakh bales of cotton either at Minimum Support Price (MSP) or market prices this season with the cotton arrivals beginning in full swing, according to CCI chief MM Chokalingam. So far this season CCI has already purchased some 62,000 bales of cotton at Minimum Support Price (MSP).
