Sweden looking for joint project on smart textiles with Birla

Sweden has been investing heavily in developing textiles made from sustainable raw materials as it seeks to support a globally successful textile industry, they are now in discussion with Aditya Biral Group for a joint project in the area of smart textiles.

Swedish minister for enterprises & innovation and rural affairs Sven-Erik Bucht said that if the talks fructify a joint venture between Swedish company Domsjo and the Birlas along with the two governments will be inked.

Cotton spot rates decline in Pakistan

The spot rates of cotton have reduced by Rs100/maund as recorded at the Karachi Cotton Exchange. The spot rates decreased to Rs6,450/maund (37.324kg) and Rs6,912/40kg. Ex-Karachi rates also fell to Rs6,595/maund and Rs7,067/40kg after an addition of Rs145 and Rs155 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

An analyst said the spot rates declined because of an increase in the arrivals. He added that demand remained still high in the market, but any arrival in bulk or decline in quality will decrease the prices.

Sharp increase in cotton yarn prices in Pakistan by almost 20% has hit hard the export-oriented value-added textile sector. Newly-elected senior vice chairman of The Pakistan Readymade Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association( PRGMEA,North Zone), Sheikh Luqman Amin said that the unprecedented surge in cotton yarn rates during the cotton crop season is not understandable, as the prices are usually at the lowest ambit these days.

Burkina Faso ‘s cotton output revised

One of Africa’s top cotton growers, Burkina Faso, revised its 2017-18 cotton production to 563,000 tons, down from earlier estimate of 650,000 tons.

It had earlier showed a downward projection of its cotton harvest owing to the fact that insufficient rains coupled with pest invasion during sowing period decreased production.

Cotton is the second largest export item for Burkina Faso. It accounts for around 15 per cent revenue to the country’s foreign exchange, and employs about four million people.

A buyers’ project and textile show, the Destination Africa expo in Cairo, Egypt on November 11 and 12, had been organized by the government of Egypt.It had also invited Brazilian buyers. The representatives from Brazilian textile mills Círculo, Fiama and Damenny joined it after being selected by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and the Consulate of Egypt in São Paulo.

On the show’s first day, the Brazilians visited stands and spoke with prospective suppliers. On the second day, they attended a conference with local textile industry specialists and learned about the local market.
