The overall behavior at cotton market on Thursday was firm and prices began to stabilise. Leading buyers stayed away from the trading ring . However, as per market estimates, the level of prices still remained above import parity.

The current spell of rains in Punjab is being reckoned to be healthy for standing cotton plants and could help improve production. However, leading spinners seemed to be unwilling to take any risk and are keen to import cotton once duty is withdrawn.

In China, nylon FDY70D/24F SD and FDY40D prices were both up US cents 3-10 in the first week of November. Nylon DTY prices were stable while 30D/10F rose US cents 3 a kg on the week. Monofilament 30D prices up US cents 2 a kg on the week while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices were down US cents 13 a kg.

In the first week of November, the SE and FE Asian caprolactum markers on the lower end jumped US$50 a ton as compared to last week. Meanwhile in China, spot liquid good offers were down US$135 a ton on the week while solid goods fell US$118. Sinopec and Fibrant raised November nomination for liquid goods as compared to last month.

Garment exports hit hard in October as order bookings didn’t happen due to the ambiguities relating to GST. The fall is one of the highest in percentage term, the worst performing export category in October, as per the data with the union commerce ministry.

With readymade garment exports plunging 40.7 percent on a year-on-year (yoy) basis to Rs 5,398 crore in October, exporters have blamed the slump on financial crunch due to the delay in getting GST refunds and reduction in duty drawback rates under the new regime.
