WKS technology used by Cifra to make masks

Specialist warp knit fabric manufacturer Cifra has used its WKS (Warp Knit Seamless) technology to develop a range of protective masks.

The company has said the new product, called the Warp-Mask, will help its home country, Italy, in its fight against covid-19. It said it had managed to develop and bring the masks to market in just a few days.

Chief executive, Cesare Citterio, told local media that coming up with the high-tech mask was his and Cifra’s way of contributing to the response to “this terrible pandemic”. He explained that the product meets the requirements of Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, is designed and made in Italy, is made from double-layer warp-knitted fabric and has no seams to enhance comfort.

It is antibacterial, anti-droplet and washable up to fifteen times. Each mask is made from 80% polyamide and 20% Lycra multifilament yarn; the manufacturer has said a high percentage of Lycra makes sure the mask fits well. The finished fabric uses HeiQ’s Eco-Dry technology to offer fluorocarbon-free durable water repellency.
